The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State (FUTIA) is one of Nigeria’s newest federal universities established in June 2021 by the Nigerian government. This university is one of the two new Universities of Technology, founded in Akwa Ibom and Jigawa state.
The university focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and hopes to be one of the best places to learn, research, and get new ideas. FUTIA offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in areas of computing, engineering, and pure and applied sciences.
They even have a program for distance learning, in case you are too busy to attend the regular degree This university was approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and recognized by professional groups like COREN, CPN, and NISLT.

List Of Faculties/Colleges At FUTIA
Currently, as of the time this article was published, the university has just only three faculties which are listed below;
1. School of Pure and Applied Science: FUTIA offers programmes in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and statistics at this faculty to produce graduates who will be competent in scientific knowledge and skill.
2. School of Engineering and Technology: The second faculty which is the School of Engineering and Technology offers programmes in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical/electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, and petroleum engineering.
The reason why FUTIA created this faculty is the aim of producing graduates who will be competent in engineering principles and practices, and at the same time must be able to design, construct, operate, and maintain engineering systems and projects.
3. School of Computing and Information Technology: The purpose why FUTIA established this faculty is to offer programmes in computer science, software engineering, information technology, and cyber security.
At the end of the degree programme, students should be able to use their skills in computing and information technology and should be able to develop, implement, and manage software systems and applications.

List Of FUTIA Programmes
Currently, FUTIA run four programmes which are stated in the next article below;
1. Undergraduate Programme: Currently, FUTIA is running a four-year programme leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree. This programme is run by the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology, Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, and Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The admission requirements for this program is a minimum of five credits in relevant subjects at the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent and must pass the cut-off mark in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the Post-UTME screening test conducted by Jamb and the university.
2. Graduate Programme: This programme leads to the award of Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in various courses in the faculties The admission requirements for this programmes include a minimum of second class lower division in the relevant Bachelor’s degree for the M.Sc. programme, and a minimum of 60% or B grade in the relevant Master’s degree for the PhD programme. The programme is two years for the M.Sc. and three years for the Ph.D.
3. Distance Learning Programme: This programme allows students to study a degree programme from FUTIA without physically present on campus. The programme uses online platforms and technologies to deliver lectures, assignments, tests, and feedback.
4. Certificate Programme: The certificate Programme is a short-term programme, this programme was established by FUTIA for interested candidate who wants to acquire more skills development in their various fields and disciplines. The programme is open to anyone ready to acquire new knowledge and competencies for personal or professional purposes.
The admission requirements for the above-listed courses vary depending on the course, but generally, the admission requirement includes; a minimum of three credits in relevant subjects at the SSCE or its equivalent. The duration of the programme ranges from three months to one year.
