Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI) formerly Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo was established in 2011 to improve tertiary education access in Nigeria and was officially renamed after the late Vice President Dr. Alex Ekwueme in 2018.
The university is located in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, 25 kilometres from Abakaliki. the university occupies about 438 hectares of land, providing a platform to engage with development drivers and formulate appropriate programmes and research.
The University is known as the ‘Home of Soaring Eagles’, and provides students with advanced research, a qualified workforce, modern facilities, and a serene learning environment.
The aims of the university is to be a top-tier institution that delivers rigorous research and excellent teaching intending to produce graduates with relevant skills for their chosen careers.
The institution offers a lot of academic activities, the university runs undergraduate, and postgraduate, certificates and diplomas programmes. The university has 11 faculties, 41 academic departments and 57 programmes, including a College of Medicine and School of Postgraduate Studies with over 10,000 students and 2,230 staff.
AE-FUNAI’s academic philosophy emphasizes excellence, integrity, and entrepreneurship development to produce globalized economy-soaring graduates. The institution encourages lateral thinking, innovation, and creativity, fostering new ideas and breaking national boundaries to produce highly skilled, self-motivated, and enterprising graduates.

List Of FUNAI Programmes
The university offers the following programmes; Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD. Bachelor’s degree programmes provide a solid foundation, while Master’s programs require two years of intensive study and often include a research project. PhD programmes are for those who want to further their study after the master’s degree programme, the programmes contribute to the academic and research community.
The university also runs Postgraduate diploma and continuing education programmes that provide specific skills in the area of student specialization
