The University of Nigeria popularly known as UNN is a federal university of Nigeria, the university is the first indigenous and autonomous university created in Nigeria in 1995 by Nnamdi Azikiwe but formally began operation on October 7, 1960.
The opening ceremonies of the university were performed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, represented by Her Royal Highness, Princess Alexandra of Kent, who laid the foundation stone of the early building of the university
The university is located in Nsukka, Enugu state in the southeastern region of Nigeria, the university has three campuses, located at Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla.
The first student enrollment began on 17 October 1960 with 220 students and 13 academic staff. The first convocation speech was delivered by Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe the first President of the Federation of Nigeria.
This prestigious university aims to create a globally functional, competitive and focused research university capable of delivering a world-class education, and knowledge with the ability to place the university at the forefront of development, research, innovation and the ability to transfer knowledge, human resources development and promote the value of human dignity.
The University of Nigeria is the first land grant university in Africa and is currently one of the five most famous and prestigious universities in Nigeria, as of the time this article was published, the university has 17 Faculties,102 academic departments, 108 undergraduate programmes and 211 postgraduate programmes.

List Of Faculties/Colleges At UNN
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has 17 faculties that offer various programmes and courses in different disciplines and fields of study. Here is a brief overview of each faculty and its departments:
1. Faculty of Agriculture: The Faculty of Agriculture, UNN was the first land grant faculty in Africa, founded in 1960, the faculty is among the first faculty created on October 17 1960. the faculty is centred on excellence in entrepreneurship, innovation and research. The faculty currently has departments of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Soil Science, Animal Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Home Science and Management, Food Science and Technology, Crop Science
2. Faculty of Arts: This faculty is also one of the first four faculties created during the establishment of the university in 1960, the faculty started operation with six departments. Currently, the faculty has departments of History & International Studies, Mass Communication, Archaeology & Tourism, English & Literary Studies, Fine & Applied Arts, Linguistics, Igbo & Other Nigerian Languages, Music, Theatre And Film Studies, Foreign Language and Literature
3. Faculty of Biological Sciences: This faculty is previously known as the Faculty of Science with Department of Botany (now Plant Science & Biotechnology) and Zoology (nowZoology & Environmental Biology) and others, this current faculty was created date back in 1966/19967 with departments of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant Science & Biotechnology, Genetics & Biotechnology, Zoology & Environmental Biology
4. Faculty of Education: The Faculty of Education started as Harden College of Education in 1961during the time of its establishment the faculty only enrol 40 students for its degree programmes, the faculty was restructured into the Department of Educational Foundations, Sub-Department of Arts Education, Sub-Department of Science Education in 1981/1982, today the faculty has Departments of Adult Education, Arts Education, Computer Education, Educational Foundations, Library Science, Human Kinetics & Health Education, Science Education, Social Science
