The University of Port Harcourt is an entrepreneur university, established in 1975 located in Chooba, River State in the south-south region of Nigeria. As of the time of publishing this article, the university has one college, twelve facilities, and seven schools.

1. College of Health Sciences: The College of Health Sciences was established and commenced activities in the 1979/1980 academic session with a total of 30 students, today there are four faculties under this College of Health Science, the faculties are; Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculty of Dentistry. There are currently 28 departments under this college as of the time this article was published. 3. Faculty Of Social Sciences: The faculty of Social Sciences started operation in 1977, the faculty has four departments. The departments are; the Department of Economics, the Department of Geography & Environmental Management, the Department of Political & Administrative Studies, and the Department of Sociology. Apart from these four departments the faculty also has three centres namely; the Centre for Conflicts & Gender Studies, Centre for Logistics & Transport Studies, Centre for Disaster Risk Management & Development Studies

4. Faculty of Science: This faculty comprises nine departments. The departments are; the Department of Animal & Environmental Biology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Computer Science, Department of Geology, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Department of Microbiology, Department of Physics, Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry
