The Current Official List Of UNILAG Courses & Programmes

The University of Lagos (UNILAG)was founded in 1962 to provide qualitative and research-oriented education to the citizens of Nigeria. The university was poised to produce academic professionals ready to develop and solve the country’s political social and economic crises. After many years of good academic operation, the university is acclaimed as “the University of First Choice and the Nation’s Pride”

During the establishment of the university, UNILAG has only three faculties namely; the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Medicine. The Faculty of Art, Education, Engineering and Science were added in 1964.

The University of Lagos enrolled 46 students in the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, 26 students in the Faculty of Law and 28 medical students in their first academic session in 1962/1963.

The school of postgraduate studies was established on July 22, 1981, and the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta was also merged with the University of Lagos in 1984.

As of the time of publishing this article, the university has 12 Faculties, a School of Postgraduate Studies and a Distance Learning Institute. The faculties are the faculty of Arts, the faculty of Arts, the faculty of Arts, the faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Business Administration, the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, the Faculty of Dental Sciences, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Social Sciences

The institution currently has about 60, 000 students, offering 80 undergraduate and 110 postgraduate degree programmes across the institution

List Of Faculties/Colleges At UNILAG

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has a total of 12 faculties which are:

1. Faculty of Arts: The Faculty of Art is the largest faculty in UNILAG, the university is known for its excellence and peace-making when it comes to culture, teaching and community development, the faculty provides promising graduates that are well-equipped with sufficient knowledge that meet the demand of society in term of the culture of self-employment and job creation. The faculty has 7 departments; the Department of Creative Arts, the Department of English, the Department of European Language & Integrated Studies, the Department of History and Strategic Studies, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Religious Studies, the Department of Linguistics, the Department of African and Asian Studies.

2. Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences: There are eight departments under the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, out of the seven departments in this faculty 6 of them teach basic science courses to all the students, the seventh department is the Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology which part of the unit serves the purpose of supporting services in the provision of Laboratory animals for experimental purposes. The seven departments under this faculty include; the Department of Anatomy, Department of Anatomic & Molecular Pathology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology, Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics & Toxicology, Department of Physiology.

3. Faculty of Management Sciences: This faculty of Management Science includes the following departments; the department of Actuarial Science and Insurance, the Department of Accounting, the Department of Banking and Finance, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, the department of Master Business Administration Programme

4. Faculty of Clinical Sciences: The Faculty of Clinical Sciences is the department where future doctors are produced, the faculty has 14 departments namely; the Department of Anaesthesia, the Department of Clinical Pathology, the Department of Community Health and Primary Healthcare, the Department of Haematology Blood Transfusion, the Department of Medicine, the Department of Nursing Science, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Department of Ophthalmology, the Department of Paediatrics, the Department of Physiotherapy, the Department of Psychiatry, the Department of Radiation Biology, the Department of Radiotherapy, the Department of Radiodiagnostics and Radiography and the Department of Surgery

3. PhD Programs: UNILAG offers doctoral programmes to students who want to conduct original research in their area of specialization after obtaining their master’s degree.

UNILAG also offer other programmes such as diploma and certificate programmes and distance learning programmes for students who cannot attend regard school due to their nature of work
