The Current Official List Of UDUSOK Courses & Programmes

In September 1975 the Usman Danfodiyo University (UDUSOK)was established and located at Wammakko Local Government of Sokoto, previously known as the University of Sokoto. The university is also among the four universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

During the beginning of activities at the university, the university used a temporary site now known as City Campus. The academic activities started on October 20, 1977, with a total enrollment of 93 students and 33 staff.

Currently, there are 10 facilities, including a postgraduate school. The faculties are; the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies, College of Health Sciences, Faculty of Education and Extention Services, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Food Sciences and Faculty of Engineering

The university started its postgraduate program in 1983 with the aim of training graduates in different disciplines for master’s and doctorate degrees.

In 1982 the university moved most of its Faculties and departments from the temporary site to its permanent site, the temporary site known as the City Campus hosted the faculty of veterinary medicine, the College of Health Science, the Centre for Islamic Studies, and some residences.

Usman Danfodiyo University is known for promoting and disseminating knowledge, contributing to the truth and maintaining the international character of a university. The university aims to be a centre of excellence in research, teaching and community services, the university also has a mission of providing quality teaching, research and community service to the people and community at large.

List Of Faculties/Colleges At UDUSOK

1. Faculty of Agriculture: In 1980/1981 academic session the university of UDUSOK started a four-year B.Sc (Honours) Agriculture degree programme for direct students, the session has only 13 students, and since 1990 the programme has been modified to meet the accreditation standard. The faculty offers 3 undergraduate programmes in the following departments; Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Department of Agricultural Economics, Department of Animal Science, Department of Crop Science, Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Department of Forestry and Environment and Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering.

2. Faculty of Arts: The Faculty of Arts was established a year after the university was created, and since then comprises of Departments of English and Literary Studies, French, History and International Studies, Linguistics, Mass Communication, Nigerian Languages

3. Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies: The Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies was also established a year after the resumption of academic activities in 1976 with the hope of playing a role in providing an enabling atmosphere for learning and character building for the younger minds. The faculty comprises of Departments Arabic, Arabic and Literary Studies, Islamic Studies, Quran and Hadith Studies

4. Faculty of Education and Extension Services: In the 1980/1981 academic session the Faculty of Education and Extension Services began operation as a four-year integrated B.Sc. (Honour) for direct entry students to be a centre of excellence for training teachers and educators and to build a quality teacher and educational administrator. The faculty currently has Departments of Adult Education and Extension Services, Curriculum Studies & Educational Tech., Educational Foundations, Library and Information Science, Science and Vocational Education
