The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) located in Kaduna was established in 1977 to operate as a primary academic and professional training center for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) with the aim of producing well-trained graduates in aerospace engineering, Aeronautics, Avionics, and logistics.
In 2018/ 2019 the institution was accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Council for the Regulation of Engineers in Nigeria (COREN), and Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to operate as University.
As of the time of writing this article, the institution has graduated more than 5, 639 students including Nigerian Army, Nigeria Navy and NAF officials, the institution has also graduated students from other countries like Niger Republic, Ghana, Republic of Benin and Sierra Leone

List Of Faculties/Colleges At AFIT
Currently, AFIT has only 5 faculties, each has its departments. The Faculties are listed below with their department;
1. Faculty of Air Engineering: This faculty offers programmes in aerospace engineering, aircraft engineering technology, and armament technology. The faculty aims to produce graduates who can design, develop, and maintain aerospace systems and equipment³.
2. Faculty of Computing: This faculty offers programmes in computer science, cyber security, software engineering, and information and communication technology. The faculty aims to produce graduates who can apply computational methods and tools to solve real-world problems.
3. Faculty of Ground and Communication Engineering: This faculty offers programmes in electrical/electronics engineering, telecommunications engineering, and automotive engineering.
4. Faculty of Social and Management Sciences: This faculty offers programmes in accounting, business administration, economics, and marketing.
5. Faculty of Sciences: This faculty offers programmes in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
There is also a School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS) that offers various postgraduate programmes in engineering, science, and management.
