The Federal University Lokoja (FULOKOJA) was established on February 16, 2011 along with eight other Federal universities, the university is located in Lokoja, Kogi State, the university was approved in order to increase the access to quality education and build institutions for rapid development
During the establishment of the institution, the university started with two campuses, the main campus is in Lokoja while the College of Health Sciences is in Adankolo, and its Liaison Office is in Abuja.
The University also started with two faculties and eleven departments, the faculties and the eleven departments are listed below;

- English Language and Literary Studies

- Political Science
- Geography
2. Faculty of Science
- Biological Science
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Computer Science
- Physics
- Geology
During the 2012/2013 academic session, the faculties increased from two faculties to five faculties, a colleges, an institutes, schools, and directorates. Currently, the university has seven faculties
