The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) was founded in February 2011 in Katsina state, was officially launched in 2012 under former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration.
The Federal University Dutsin-ma, along with eight other universities, was established as part of the approved establishment of twelve new universities based on equity and access. The establishment was a result of a memorandum by the then Minister of State, Education, Olorogun Kenneth O. Gbagi, to the Federal Executive Council. A technical committee, led by Prof. Julius A. Okojie, developed the location and take-off modalities.
In 2011, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan appointed Prof. James O.I. Ayatse and Mal. Muhammad Yusuf Abubakar as Vice Chancellor and Registrar. They officially assumed office on 10th March 2011, and later appointed Mr. Sadiq Momoh Jimoh and Mallam Misbahu Naiya as Deputy Bursar and Librarian.
The university has been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various courses.
The university has various faculties, including; the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. Each faculty has different departments, catering to students’ interests and career goals.
The Federal Government of Nigeria owns and funds the Federal University, Dutsin-ma, while the Katsina State Government has contributed significantly to the university’s infrastructural development.
The logo of the Federal University, Dutsin-ma are some rocks, a wheel and a calf, a fine blend of carefully selected colours to signify the focus and integrity of the university.
