Islamic Religious Studies is mandatory in the learning process of Muslim students globally. The subject is taught in the broader school curriculum, and hence the students are expected to grasp the concepts and teachings associated with the Islamic religion.

The article will discuss the topics and themes covered in the Islamic Religious Studies Scheme of Work for Primary 5 for first, second and third term.

The First Term of IRS Scheme of Work for Primary 5 is comprising Suratul Alaq, Suratul Aslaq, the significance of the belief of life after death, Therefore, Weeks one and two are dedicated to the First lesson as the students also are introduced to Suratul Alaq, which is the 96 th chapter of the Qur’an. It is one of the shortest chapters in the Qur’an and covers the first revelation to the prophet.

In week two student will learn Suratul Aslaq and the translation of Suratul Alaq. The next chapter is Suraqs focus on the importance of the belief of life after death, Yaumul-Qiyamah or Yaumul-Akhraks ; since death is the reality.

This will be followed by week four- student will learn life after death, Yaumil-Qiyamah or Yaumul-Akhira and the fact-resurrection, judgment certainty. Week five- significance of life after death, paradise to good-doers, hell to evil-doers, and eternity of life.

Week six teaches the students about Suratul-Tin and the Arabic text. On week seven, students must learn the translation of Suratul-Duha, week eight covers a short history of Khulafau Rashidun and the name the four Khulafau Rashidun and their relationship with the prophet. Week nine cover the life history of Uthman bn Affan, and week ten ends the term by teaching life history of Ali bn Abi-Talib.

This term of the IRS Scheme of Work for Primary 5 defines the second term that will focus on the following: Suratul-Qariat, As-Sawm, Al-Duha, and learning from role of some women talked about in the Holy Quran.

Learning about Suratul-Qariat is scheduled for week one, with its translation being on week two. On the other hand, the 3rd week will be that of what actually is fasting and the different types and week four will define the conditions to fasting.

Then the student learns the social and religious importance of fasting in week five. Week six teaches the learning of Arabic text of Suratul-Duha.

The translation of Suratul-Duha in week seven is followed by the lessons from the role of some women mentioned in the Holy Quran 10-12 Quran 66 in week eight. The language prefers the names of the women close to the Prophet, values and life of women in the Quran such as the wife of Prophet lut and the wife of Prophet Nuh.

Week nine focuses on the life history of Maryam, the mother of Prophet Isa, while week ten concludes the term by teaching the life history of Aishiat, the wife of Pharaoh.

The third term of the IRS Scheme of Work for Primary 5 entails; Suratul-Luqman: Zakat, Islamic rules of conduct. Week one entails; Suratul-Luqman 12-16 in Arabic and transliteration and its translation.

Week two on translation by the number. Week three on;. Suratul-Luqman 17-19 in Arabic and its transliteration and.. Week four I on the translation of Suratul-Luqman 17-19.

In week five, students learn about the meaning of Zakat and its importance Artist as a result of which Zakat is due Articles in which Zakat is stipulated and to whom Zakat should be given People’s Ihram and Zakat benefits Islamic rules of conduct I, e.g., selfishness moderation

In week nine, students are taught the Islamic rules of conduct I, which include modesty, that which is done most good, and from which one must withhold oneself from.

In week ten, the students are taken through the Islamic rules of conduct II, which include what punctuality is and its attributes and regularity. Week eleven wraps up the term with the Islamic rules of conduct II; they include counteroffer, commit, interest, opening, and resistance.
