Cultural and Creative Arts Scheme of Work for JSS 2

Cultural and Creative Arts Scheme of Work for JSS 2 provides a broad education in the arts, design principles, craft production, music, drama, and dance. This curriculum develops their creative skills and cultural awareness and appreciation.

By the end of the year, the students will be ready to continue their artistic journey and explore the arts careers.

The first term of the scheme covers elements of design, principles of design, materials, tools, and equipment in craft making, drawing and shading, color classification, color application in craft, painting, pattern production, and paper mache modeling.

Students learn the principles of design such as harmony, variety, balance, proportion, dominance, and rhythm, and how to apply them in their projects.

In the second term, the student will learn Beadwork, card making and decoration, paper weaving, history of music, musical practice, singing, life drawing, imaginative and creative drawing, tie and dye fabric decoration, art materials, and tools.

They will also learn about the origins of music from natural sounds and rhythms, develop aural skills through listening to different music styles and imaginative and creative drawing.

The third term emphasized on definition of drama and theatre, functions, elements, forms, origins and roles. Students identify and create elements of drama: script, character, stage, audience, sound and lights.

They will also learn about different forms of drama: comedy, tragedy, mask drama, dance drama and farce.

The origins of drama are explored through mimesis, ritual and storytelling. Playwriting is looked at, students learn about the role of a play director, famous playwrights and types of playwrights.

They will learn Rehearsal activities: reading, movement, acting, expression, voice production and cues. Different types of dance are looked at: pure dance, dance drama, dramatic dance, and comic dance.

They will end the term week with Dance as a career; working in art councils, participating in talent hunts, being a dance lecturer, and running dance companies.

Each term ends with revision and exams.

The scheme covers design, craft, beadwork, music, singing, life drawing, tie and dye, art materials and tools, and career possibilities in dance.

The scheme covers all aspects of design, craft, and theatre.

Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA) is a crucial subject for Junior Secondary School 2 (JSS 2) students. It aims to foster creativity, cultural appreciation, and artistic skills. The curriculum is divided into three terms, each focusing on different aspects of art, craft, music, drama, and dance.
