New Revised NERDC Primary 4 Islamic Studies Scheme of Work

Week 1: Purposes of man’s creation (Surah Zariyat 51:51-56)

1. Content: Application of lessons to daily life and society.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to apply the concept of worship in everyday actions.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher facilitates discussions on application, The teacher provides real-world examples, The teacher guides students in connecting worship to behavior, The teacher assigns creative projects.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners share examples of worship in daily life, The learners create posters showing worship applications, The learners present group projects, The learners write short reflections.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Posters and chart paper for creative projects, Group discussion tools and guidelines, Writing materials for reflections, Examples of daily worship acts for reference.

Week 2: Salat (prayer)

1. Content: Basic knowledge of wudu and prayer times.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to perform wudu and identify prayer times.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher demonstrates wudu step by step, The teacher explains prayer times, The teacher discusses the importance of cleanliness, The teacher corrects student practice.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners practice wudu, The learners list prayer times, The learners observe demonstrations, The learners ask questions about correct procedure.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Prayer mats for demonstration and practice, Water containers for wudu practice, Charts showing prayer times, Visual guides for wudu steps.

Week 3: Salat (prayer)

1. Content: Steps of salat, rak’at structure.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to describe the steps of salat.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher demonstrates salat steps, The teacher explains rak’at structure, The teacher leads practice sessions, The teacher provides individual guidance.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners practice in groups, The learners correct each other, The learners memorize steps, The learners demonstrate salat movements.

Week 4: Salat (prayer)

1. Content: Meaning and importance of salat in life.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to explain salat’s role in moral development.

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher discusses importance of prayer, The teacher assigns essays, The teacher facilitates group sharing, The teacher connects salat to character building.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners write short essays on prayer benefits, The learners share experiences, The learners discuss how salat affects behavior, The learners create presentations on prayer importance.

Week 5: Sawm (fasting)

1. Content: Rules and conditions of fasting.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to list rules of fasting.

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher explains rules, The teacher uses stories about fasting, The teacher discusses who must fast, The teacher clarifies conditions and exceptions.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners discuss rules, The learners role-play fasting days, The learners list rules in notebooks, The learners ask questions about fasting conditions.

Week 6: Sawm (fasting)

1. Content: Benefits and application in life.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to describe benefits of fasting.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher discusses benefits, The teacher facilitates debates, The teacher connects fasting to self-discipline, The teacher provides health and spiritual perspectives.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners debate benefits, The learners share thoughts on fasting, The learners create charts showing benefits, The learners reflect on self-control.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Charts on benefits of fasting (spiritual, health, social), Debate cards with discussion points, Writing materials for reflections, Reference books on Sawm.

Week 7: Mid-Term Break

Students go on mid-term break. Teachers should conduct mid-term tests covering topics from Week 1 to Week 6 before the break. This assessment checks understanding of worship application, Salat performance, and Sawm knowledge.

Week 8: Zakat

1. Content: Concept of zakat, who gives and receives.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to explain zakat’s purpose.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher explains concept, The teacher uses examples of zakat recipients, The teacher discusses wealth distribution, The teacher connects zakat to social justice.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners identify recipients, The learners discuss examples, The learners list who qualifies for zakat, The learners share thoughts on helping others.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Charts on zakat categories and recipients, Visual aids showing wealth distribution, Islamic books explaining zakat, Discussion cards for group work.

Week 9: Zakat

1. Content: Calculation and importance in society.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to outline basic zakat calculation.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher teaches simple calculations, The teacher provides practice problems, The teacher explains nisab concept, The teacher discusses zakat’s societal impact.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners practice calculations, The learners work in groups on problems, The learners discuss zakat importance, The learners create scenarios for calculation practice.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Calculators for practice calculations, Example worksheets with zakat problems, Charts showing nisab levels, Math materials for group work.

Week 10: Hajj (pilgrimage)

1. Content: Introduction to Hajj, conditions and pillars.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to list pillars of Hajj.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher describes pillars, The teacher shows pictures of Hajj sites, The teacher explains conditions for performing Hajj, The teacher discusses Hajj significance.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners list pillars, The learners draw maps of Makkah, The learners observe pictures, The learners ask questions about Hajj.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Pictures of Kaaba and Hajj sites, Maps of Makkah showing important locations, Charts listing Hajj pillars, Videos of Hajj rituals if available.

Week 11: Revision

Teachers should revise all lessons from Week 1 to Week 10. Review the application of worship concepts, Salat performance and importance, Sawm rules and benefits, Zakat calculations and recipients, and Hajj basics. Use demonstrations, calculations practice, and discussions to prepare students for examinations.

Week 12: Examination

The second term examination begins. Teachers should test students on practical worship skills, understanding of Fiqh concepts, and ability to apply Islamic teachings. Assessments should include both written tests and practical demonstrations where appropriate.

Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation

Teachers conclude the examination, mark scripts, and record results. Provide feedback on students’ understanding of worship practices and areas needing improvement. After completing all academic activities, students proceed on vacation until the third term begins.
