New Revised NERDC Primary 4 Christian Religious Studies Scheme of Work

Week 1: God Speaks to Us

1. Content: Ways in which God speaks to people (Ex 33:11), Purpose of God speaking to people (1 Sam 3).

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to describe at least two ways God speaks and explain one purpose.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher explains ways God speaks using bible stories, the teacher asks guiding questions.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners listen, the learners discuss in pairs how God might speak today, the learners share examples.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, chart of communication methods, pictures of biblical figures.

Week 2: God Speaks to Us II

1. Content: Jacob’s encounter with God (Genesis 32:22-32), Right attitude when God is speaking (Ex 34:27-35).

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to narrate Jacob’s story and demonstrate respectful attitudes like listening attentively.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher narrates the story, the teacher demonstrates attitudes through role-play.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners role-play Jacob’s encounter, the learners discuss attitudes in group.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, flashcards with attitudes, role-play props like a pillow for wrestling scene.

Week 3: We Are Children of One Father

1. Content: The Fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man (John 1:12-13, John 3, Matthew 5:21-24), Significance of being in Christ as son of God.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to explain God’s fatherhood and list two significances of brotherhood.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher reads bible verses, the teacher facilitates discussion on family analogies.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners draw family trees including God, the learners share how to treat ‘brothers’.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, drawing paper, markers for family illustrations.

Week 4: Attitude of Children of One Father

1. Content: Attitude of children of one father, Importance of living in peace.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to identify positive attitudes like kindness and explain peace’s importance.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher discusses attitudes with examples, the teacher leads peace-building activity.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners brainstorm attitudes in groups, the learners create peace posters.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, posters on peace, group discussion cards.

Week 5: God Calls Us for a Purpose

1. Content: The story of Abraham’s call (Genesis 13:1-3), Purpose of God’s call, Right response to God’s call, Benefits of obedience (Luke 5:1-11, Genesis 12:1-20).

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to retell Abraham’s story and state benefits of obedience.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher tells story, the teacher discusses responses and benefits.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners act out the call, the learners journal personal ‘calls’ like helping others.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, storybooks on Abraham, journals for reflection.

Week 6: God Gives His Law to Us

1. Content: Meaning of laws, Reasons for the law, Purposes of the law (regulate relationship with God and people, Exodus 20:1-11).

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to define laws and explain two purposes.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher explains laws with everyday examples, the teacher reads Exodus.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners list school laws, the learners compare to God’s laws in pairs.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, chart of laws, examples from school rules.

Week 7: Mid-Term Break

Mid-term break allows pupils to rest and reflect on lessons learned. Teachers should conduct a mid-term test covering topics from Week 1 to Week 6 before the break. This assessment helps identify areas where pupils need additional support.

Week 8: The Ten Commandments (Part 1)

1. Content: The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) – Focus on first five commandments.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to list and explain the first five commandments.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher teaches commandments with visuals, the teacher quizzes understanding.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners recite and draw illustrations for each.

Week 9: The Ten Commandments (Part 2)

1. Content: The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) – Focus on last five commandments.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to list and explain the last five commandments.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher reviews part 1, the teacher teaches remaining, the teacher discusses applications.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners role-play scenarios following commandments.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, role-play scenarios cards, group discussion aids.

Week 10: God Reveals Himself to Us and Attitude of God’s Revelation

1. Content: Purpose of God’s revelation, Mode of revelation, The story of Samuel’s call (1 Samuel 3:1-6).

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to state purposes/modes of revelation and narrate Samuel’s story.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher explains revelation, the teacher narrates story.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners discuss modes in groups, the learners act out Samuel’s call.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bible, pictures of revelation modes, drama props.

Week 11: Revision

Revision week helps pupils consolidate learning from the entire term. Teachers should review all topics from Week 1 to Week 10 through quizzes, group discussions, and practice questions. This preparation ensures pupils are ready for the final examination.

Week 12: Examination

The term examination assesses pupils’ understanding of all first term topics. Teachers administer the exam in a conducive environment and ensure pupils have adequate time to complete their papers. The exam covers knowledge, comprehension, and application of biblical teachings learned.

Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation

This week concludes the first term with marking and recording of examination results. Teachers provide feedback to pupils on their performance and identify areas for improvement. After completing all assessment activities, pupils proceed on vacation to rest before the second term begins.
