Week 1: Meaning, Scope and Importance of Home Economics

1. Content: Meaning of Home Economics; scope (areas) of Home Economics.

2. Performance Objectives: Define and explain the meaning of Home Economics, enumerate the different areas of Home Economics.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher defines and explains the meaning of Home Economics, the teacher enumerates the scope of Home Economics.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners participate in class discussion, the learners ask and answer questions.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Chart showing the scope and careers in Home Economics. The chart should clearly display different areas like nutrition, clothing, child care, and home management to help pupils understand the broad nature of this subject.

Week 2: Meaning, Scope and Importance of Home Economics

1. Content: Careers in Home Economics; importance of Home Economics to the society.

2. Performance Objectives: List various careers in Home Economics, outline the importance of Home Economics to the society.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher lists the careers in Home Economics, the teacher explains the importance of Home Economics to the society, the teacher gives a board summary.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners give examples of people in Home Economics careers, the learners copy the board summary.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Chart and pictures illustrating careers in Home Economics. Show images of nutritionists, tailors, caterers, hotel managers, and home economists to help pupils visualize career possibilities in this field.

Week 3: Personal Grooming and Use of Basic Cosmetics

1. Content: Parts of the human body: head (hair, eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, ear, neck); trunk (chest, arm, belly, pubic region).

2. Performance Objectives: Identify parts of the human body, state functions of the parts of human body.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher displays a properly labelled chart of parts of the body, the teacher discusses reasons for taking care of the body.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners touch different parts of their own body, the learners observe clean nails and clean clothing.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: A labelled diagram of the body showing all major parts. Use a baby doll to demonstrate proper care practices and help pupils understand body care without discomfort or embarrassment.

Week 4: Personal Grooming and Use of Basic Cosmetics

1. Content: Limb: legs, hands with nails; functions of each part.

2. Performance Objectives: State functions of the parts of human body.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher brings all materials for taking care of the body to show pupils.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners display their finger, toe, nails for inspection.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Soap, towel, sponge, water, toothpaste and brush, and chewing stick. These everyday items help pupils understand what materials they need for basic body care and hygiene maintenance.

Week 5: Personal Grooming and Use of Basic Cosmetics

1. Content: Classify materials used for the care of the body, stating their uses; traditional and modern materials (e.g., cam-wood, antimony).

2. Performance Objectives: Enumerate the traditional and modern materials used for taking care of the body and their uses.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher displays different materials for taking care of the body on table including traditional ones.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners differentiate between traditional and modern materials for the care of the body.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Traditional and modern cosmetics displayed side by side. Include a labelled chart showing safe and harsh cosmetics to teach pupils how to choose products that protect rather than harm their skin.

Week 6: Personal Grooming and Use of Basic Cosmetics

1. Content: Reasons for daily care of the body; care for each part of the body.

2. Performance Objectives: Demonstrate how to take care of the body.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher demonstrates the correct use of each cosmetics on the body.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners use baby doll to demonstrate the care of different body parts.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Baby doll for demonstration purposes, soap, towel, and various cosmetics. These materials allow pupils to practice grooming skills in a safe, controlled manner before applying them to themselves.

Week 7: Mid-Term Break

Mid-term break provides rest and assessment time. Conduct a mid-term test covering topics from Week 1 to Week 6 before the break. This helps teachers evaluate pupil understanding of Home Economics concepts and grooming practices.

Week 8: Personal Grooming and Use of Basic Cosmetics

1. Content: Correct use of basic and safe cosmetics (oils, creams, pomades, powder, etc.).

2. Performance Objectives: Use basic and safe cosmetics correctly.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher classifies cosmetics into safe and dangerous cosmetics, the teacher explains directions on labels.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners identify information on containers of cosmetics e.g. use, expiry date, the learners bring empty containers of cosmetics containing labels.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Oils, creams, pomades, powder, nail polish, body spray, perfume, lipsticks, and eye pencil. Display various cosmetic products with clear labels to teach pupils how to read and understand product information.

Week 9: Personal Grooming and Use of Basic Cosmetics

1. Content: Adverse effects of some chemicals used in cosmetics.

2. Performance Objectives: Use basic and safe cosmetics correctly, mention side effects.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher explains adverse effects, the teacher gives board summary.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners participate in discussions, the learners copy the board summary.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Labelled chart showing safe and harsh cosmetics with their potential effects. This visual aid helps pupils understand why they must choose cosmetics carefully and follow proper usage instructions.

Week 10: Personal Grooming and Use of Basic Cosmetics

1. Content: Review of care practices and cosmetics use.

2. Performance Objectives: Demonstrate overall personal grooming.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher reviews all parts and demonstrates full grooming, the teacher gives board summary.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: All materials from previous weeks including soap, cosmetics, towels, and baby doll. This comprehensive review helps pupils consolidate their learning about body care and safe cosmetic use.

Week 11: Revision

Revision week covers all second term topics from Week 1 to Week 10. Review Home Economics definitions, body parts, grooming practices, and cosmetic safety. Use practical demonstrations and discussions to reinforce key concepts before the examination.

Week 12: Examination

Examination week tests pupils on Home Economics scope, careers, body parts identification, grooming procedures, and cosmetic safety. Include both written questions and practical demonstrations to assess theoretical knowledge and practical skills comprehensively.

Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation

Conclude examinations, mark all papers, and record results properly. Give pupils feedback on their performance and highlight areas needing improvement. After completing all administrative tasks, the term vacation begins.
