New Revised NERDC Primary 4 Physical and Health Education Scheme of Work

Week 1: High jump

1. Content: High jump skill: run up, take off, flight, landing, recovery. Performing high jump correctly.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to perform the basic skills in high jump correctly.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher leads group warm-up, The teacher guides individual practice of high jump skills, The teacher facilitates cool down and discussion on safety.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners participate in groups warm up exercise to put body in tune, The learners carryout individually the basic skills of high jump, The learners participate in cool down activities, The learners participate in whole class discussion to identify safety precautions in high jump.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: High jump pitch provides designated area for safe jumping practice. Poles and cross bar create adjustable height challenges. Landing foam or mattress ensures safe landings and prevents injuries. Measuring tape tracks height achievements. Flag marks successful attempts. Sports wear allows unrestricted movement during jumps.

Week 2: Tennis

1. Content: Tennis skills: the grip, service, forehand drive, backhand drive. Scoring system: O point=lave, 1 point=15, 2 point=30, 3 point=40. Playing tennis correctly.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to:
i. perform basic skills in tennis,
ii. count the point score in tennis correctly.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher guides groups in performing skills of Grip, Stance, Serve (Forehand and backhand drive) in tennis, The teacher leads discussion on safety precautions.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners perform in groups the skills of Grip, Stance, Serve (Forehand and backhand drive) in tennis, The learners participate in group discussion on safety precautions in tennis.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Tennis court provides standard playing surface with proper dimensions. Tennis balls allow skill practice and game play. Racket enables proper stroke technique development. Sports wears ensure comfort during active court movement.

Week 3: Table tennis

1. Content: Table tennis skills: the grip, service, forehand drive, backhand drive. Playing table tennis correctly.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to perform basic skills in table tennis correctly.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher guides groups in performing skills of Grip, Stance, Serve (Forehand and backhand drive) in table tennis.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners perform in groups the skills of Grip, Stance, Serve (Forehand and backhand drive) in table tennis.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Table tennis table provides regulation playing surface for skill development. Table tennis balls (Eggs) enable practice of serves and drives. Week 4: Soccer

1. Content: Soccer skills and techniques: dribbling, shooting, ball control, goalkeeping. Development of skills in playing soccer. Development of speed, agility and endurance.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to perform basic skills and techniques in soccer.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher guides groups in performing skills of dribbling, shooting, ball control and goalkeeping in soccer.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners perform in groups the skills of dribbling, shooting, ball control and goalkeeping in the game of soccer.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Soccer pitch provides proper field dimensions for realistic game practice. Soccer ball enables all skill development activities.
