New Revised NERDC Primary 4 Physical and Health Education Scheme of Work

Week 1: Moving our body parts I

1. Content: Meaning of locomotor movement. Features of locomotor movement: walking, running, skipping, sliding, hopping, jumping, leaping. Moving body parts by walking, running, jumping, etc.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to:
i. explain the meaning of locomotor movement,
ii. mention the features of locomotor movement,
iii. move body parts by walking, running, jumping, etc.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher guides pupils to watch video clips as a whole class in the classroom showing the skills of walking, running, skipping, sliding, hopping, jumping and leaping, The teacher organizes groups for demonstration in the playground.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners watch video clips as a whole class, The learners work in groups in the playground to demonstrate body movements skills of walking, running, skipping, sliding, hopping, jumping and leaping.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Video clips help demonstrate proper movement techniques visually. The playground provides open space for physical practice. Bucks offer portable equipment for movement activities. Sports wears ensure comfort and safety during physical activities. Skipping ropes develop coordination in hopping activities. Week 2: Moving our body parts II

1. Content: Meaning of Non-locomotor movement. Features of non-locomotor movement: Stretching, Bending, Twisting, Swinging, Pulling, Pushing. Performing non-locomotive movements like stretching, swinging, bending, etc.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to:
i. explain the meaning of non-locomotor movement,
ii. mention the features non-locomotive movement,
iii. perform non-locomotive movements like stretching, swinging, bending, etc.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher guides pupils to work in groups to perform correct body movement skills of stretching, bending, twisting, swinging, pulling and pushing, The teacher shows video clips demonstrating the skills.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners work in groups to perform correct body movement skills of stretching, bending, twisting, swinging, pulling and pushing, The learners watch video clips showing the skills of stretching, bending, twisting, swinging, pulling and pushing as they perform the activities accordingly.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Video clips provide visual models of correct non-locomotor movements. The playground offers sufficient space for group practice activities. i. Teacher Activities: The teacher leads whole class discussion on correct ways to exercise, rest and sleep, The teacher facilitates group discussions on various ways and benefits.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners participate in whole class discussion on correct ways to exercise, rest and sleep, The learners participate in groups discussion on various ways to exercise, rest and sleep, The learners participate in whole class discussion on benefits of exercise, rest and sleep.

4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Posters display information about healthy exercise, rest, and sleep habits. Pictures illustrate proper exercise techniques and rest positions. Video clips show real-life examples of healthy lifestyle practices and their benefits.

Week 4: Relay races

1. Content: Types of relay races: 4 by 100m, 4 by 400m. Basic skills and techniques in relay races: running take-off, jumping, throwing, maintain an arm’s length between runners, holdout your hand behind. Start, take-off, arm action, baton exchange and finish in a relay race.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to:
i. describe the types of relay races and perform 4 by 100 metre, perform 4 by 400 meter,
ii. describe the basic skills and techniques of relay races correctly,
iii. perform relay race.

3. Learning Activities:

i. Teacher Activities: The teacher organizes group warm-up exercises, The teacher guides groups in performing 4 by 100 metre and 4 by 400 metres relay races correctly, including baton exchange skills, The teacher leads cool down activities.

ii. Learning Activities: The learners participate in groups warm up exercise to put body in tune, The learners carryout individually the basic skills of long jump, The learners participate in cool down activities, The learners participate in whole class discussion to identify safety precautions in long jump.

Week 11: Revision
