Week 1-3: Health and Hygiene

1. Content (Knowledge and Skill: Knowledge: i. General body cleanliness in: bathing and care of the skin, teeth brushing with chewing stick, tooth brush and paste, cutting of nails, hair maintenance.

ii. Benefits of general body cleanliness: prevents skin infections and conditions (e.g. acne, eczema), maintains healthy skin, promote feelings of freshness and rejuvenation, improves sleep quality, prevents gum disease and bad breath.

Skills: Maintaining general body cleanliness through bathing, teeth brushing, cutting of nails and hair care.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. demonstrate general body cleanliness; 2. mention the benefits of general body cleanliness; 3. properly observe general body cleanliness.

3. Key Competencies and Value:

i. ICT and Digital Competences as pupils use information and communication technologies to enhance the learning of general body cleanliness. Information Literacy as pupils use information accurately for cleaning the body.

ii. Communication Competences as pupils use oral language to discuss and debate ways of cleaning the body. Integrity as pupils demonstrate personal cleanliness to promote skin integrity for enhancing quality of life.

4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson

i. Teacher Activities: Demonstrate step-by-step ways of cleaning the body; slow pace. Lead group discussion and debate on ways of cleaning; encourage views. Lead discussion on benefits; use stories.

Skills: Identification of first aid box and the contents.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. explain the meaning of first aid; 2. mention the objectives of first aid; 3. recognise a first box; 4. identify the contents of a first aid box.

3. Key Competencies and Value:

i. ICT and Digital Literacy Competences as pupils use information and communication technologies to enhance the learning of the meaning of first aid and its contents.

ii. Information Literacy Competences as pupils use information accurately to identify first aid box and its contents.

iii. Responsibility Competences as pupils voluntarily takes action to help others with minor injuries. Respect for others as pupils value human life and dignity by treating people who sustained minor injuries.

4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson

i. Teacher Activities: Lead discussion on meaning of first aid; simple words. Lead discussion on objectives of first aid; why it matters. Demonstrate first aid box and materials; pass around.

1. Content (Knowledge and Skill: Knowledge: 1. Simple road signs and their meaning e.g. zebra crossing, walkway and crossing the road. 2. Traffic light colours and their meaning: red = stop, orange = ready, green = go.

Skills: 1. Identification of road signs and their meaning. 2. Identification of traffic light colours and their meaning.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. recognise road signs and their meaning; 2. search video clips on identification of road signs and symbols from google; 3. recognise traffic light colours and their meaning.

3. Key Competencies and Value:

i. ICT and Digital Literacy Competences as pupils use information and communication technologies to enhance the learning and identification of road signs and symbols.

ii. Information Literacy Competences as pupils access information effectively and efficiently in following road signs and symbols.

iii. Communications Competences as pupils use oral language (rhymes and songs) to discuss the identification of traffic light colours and their meaning.

iv. Integrity Competences as pupils identify and follow the directions of road signs and traffic lights to do the right thing even when no one is watching.
