Week 1-3: Swimming
1. Content (Knowledge and Skill): Knowledge: i. Benefits of swimming: to save life, to develop strength, to reduce stress, to improve sleep. ii. Safety precautions: warm up, life guard, safety jacket, safety goggles.
iii. Basic steps of swimming: adjusting to water, coming into and out of water, face float, turtle float.
Skills: Gaining water confidence. Sit by pool and splash. Explain benefits like strength with arm moves. Use floats to show turtle.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: i. state the benefits of swimming; ii. explain safety precautions in swimming; iii. perform basic steps of swimming.
3. Key Competencies and Value:
i. Pupils demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the environment and the circumstances and conditions affecting as it relates to water.
ii. Pupils use information on swimming accurately and creatively to adjust to water.
iii. Pupils demonstrate to work effectively and respectfully in various groups while perform the swimming activities.
iv. Pupils engage in mindfulness to gains water confidence in swimming.
4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson
i. Teacher Activities: Lead discussion on benefits and safety precautions; use pictures. Demonstrate sitting by pool edge and splashing; model calm. Demonstrate coming into/out of water, dipping heads, and floating; hold hands
ii. Learning Activities: Participate in discussion on benefits; list them. Participate in discussion on water environment and safety; ask questions. Perform in groups sitting and splashing for adjustment; laugh together. Perform in groups coming into/out of water; help each other. Perform dipping heads and holding breath; count seconds. Use floaters in groups to float; relax.
5. Teaching and Learning Resources: Swimming trunks, Floaters, Pool, Lifeguards.
Lifeguards watch always. Floaters for support. Pool for real feel.
Week 4-5: Local Games
1. Content (Knowledge and Skill): Knowledge: 1. Local games: rats and rabbits, cat and rat, fire on the mountain. 2. Safety precautions: avoid uneven terrain, stay hydrated, ensure proper ventilation and lighting.
Skills: Correctly performing local games. Teach rats and rabbits first. Run in circles. Hydrate with breaks.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to perform local games correctly while observing safety precautions.
3. Key Competencies and Value:
i. Pupils are open and responsive to new and diverse perspectives, incorporate group input and feedback into the local games.
ii. Pupils thinks reflectively, broadly and logically about safety while playing the local games.
iii. Pupils communicate and convey confidently and effectively information about the various skills in play situations.
iv. Pupils play the game by cooperating with team mates.
4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson
i. Teacher Activities: Lead group discussion on rules of local games; explain clear. Guide performance of games in groups; join one. Lead brainstorming on safety precautions; write list.
ii. Learning Activities: Participate in group discussion on rules; ask why. Perform in groups the games of rats and rabbits, cat and rat, and fire on the mountain correctly; switch roles. Brainstorm on safety precautions; add home ideas.
5. Teaching and Learning Resources: Playground. Check ground for even. Use for full energy play. Add water nearby.
Week 6-10: Toilet Hygiene
1. Content (Knowledge and Skill: Knowledge: 1. The use of toilet. 2. Hand washing. 3. Benefits of toilet hygiene: prevents spread of diseases (e.g. diarrhoea, cholera), reduces risk of infections (e.g. UTIs, gastroenteritis), prevent unpleasant odours and irritations.
Skills: Proper hand washing. Demo with bowl. Sing wash song. Explain diseases with simple pics.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. use the toilets correctly; 2. wash hand correctly; 3. explain the benefits of toilet hygiene.
3. Key Competencies and Value:
i. Pupils use information accurately and creatively for toilet hygiene practices. Pupils weighs up evidence and make appropriate decisions based on experience and relevant learning on toilet hygiene.
ii. Pupils give respect for shared spaces and community norms while using the toilet.
These foundational parts teach respect for spaces. They help growth in decisions. Kids contribute to clean schools.
4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson
i. Teacher Activities: Demonstrate proper use of the toilet; step by step. Demonstrate proper hand washing; count seconds. Lead discussion on benefits; use examples.
ii. Learning Activities: Participate in whole class demonstration of the proper use of the toilet; try props. Participate in whole class demonstration of proper washing of the hands after using the toilet; practice. Participate in whole class discussion on the benefits of toilet hygiene; share stories.
5. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bowl, Water, Soap, Hand towel/tissue paper, Hand washing posters.
Posters on walls for reminders. Use soap for bubbles fun. Bowl for safe demo.
Week 7: Mid-Term Break
Mid term test should be conducted the test should be from week 1 to 6. Cover swimming and hygiene. Give positive notes.
Week 8-10: Toilet Hygiene
1. Content (Knowledge and Skill: Knowledge: 1. The use of toilet. 2. Hand washing. 3. Benefits of toilet hygiene: prevents spread of diseases (e.g. diarrhoea, cholera), reduces risk of infections (e.g. UTIs, gastroenteritis), prevent unpleasant odours and irritations.
Skills: Proper hand washing. Focus on hand steps. Discuss odours. Practice full.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. use the toilets correctly; 2. wash hand correctly; 3. explain the benefits of toilet hygiene.
3. Key Competencies and Value:
i. Pupils use information accurately and creatively for toilet hygiene practices. Critical thinking as pupils weighs up evidence and make appropriate decisions based on experience and relevant learning on toilet hygiene.
ii. Pupils give respect for shared spaces and community norms while using the toilet.
They build thinking on health choices.
4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson
i. Teacher Activities: Demonstrate proper use of the toilet; repeat slow. Demonstrate proper hand washing; add soap types. Lead discussion on benefits; quiz.
ii. Learning Activities: Participate in whole class demonstration of the proper use of the toilet; role play. Participate in whole class demonstration of proper washing of the hands after using the toilet; time it. Participate in whole class discussion on the benefits of toilet hygiene; draw benefits.
5. Teaching and Learning Resources: Bowl, Water, Soap, Hand towel/tissue paper, Hand washing posters. Towel for drying. Posters for steps.
Week 11: Revision
Revise all the lessons and prepare your pupils for the exam. Go over games and hygiene.
Week 12: Examination
The exam for the term should start. Include swimming.
Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation
Examination should be concluded together with marking and recording then vacation follows once all have been achieved. Plan next term.
