New Revised NERDC Primary 1 Physical and Health Education Scheme of Work

Week 1-3: Moving Our Body Parts 1

1. Content (Knowledge and Skill): Knowledge: Moving our body parts: raising of the hands, lifting of the legs, turning of the head, turning of the neck, turning of the eyes, twisting of the wrist, twinkling of the fingers, bending of the body, stretching of the body.

Skills: Moving of the body parts with flexibility, balance and coordination.
To cover this vividly, start with simple demos like raising hands as if reaching for stars.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. move their body parts correctly while observing safety precautions; 2. source for video clips on body movement using search engines like google.

3. Key Competencies and Value:

i. Pupils use digital technologies to watch the act of body movements in the classroom to guide their performance of body movements in the playground.

ii. Pupils demonstrate ability to move body parts correctly while observing safety. Pupils think reflectively, broadly and logically to participate in movement of body parts.

iii. Pupils perform repetitive body movements in different directions smoothly.

These foundational elements guide teaching beyond facts. They help kids grow in creativity and thinking. This prepares them for real tasks like safe play.

4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson
i. Teacher Activities: Guide pupils to watch video clips on movement body parts in the classroom; this builds visual understanding. Demonstrate movement of body parts with good body balance in the playground; join in to show safety.

ii. Learning Activities: Watch video clips on movement body parts; talk about what stands out. Demonstrate movement of body parts with good body balance; try with friends for fun.

5. Teaching and Learning Resources: Video clips, Sports wear, Play ground.
To foster a successful lesson, show videos first to spark interest. Then in the playground, have kids wear sports gear for comfort. Guide balance checks to keep it safe.

Week 4-6: Moving Our Body Part 2

1. Content (Knowledge and Skill): Knowledge: 1. Skills of body movements: Sitting, standing, walking, bending, running, jumping, stepping, hopping. 2. Safety precautions of body movements: appropriate sports wear, do not over stretch, do not exercise on a wet floor, follow the instruction of the teacher, etc.

Skills: Applying skills of movement during skills, walking, sitting and bending etc. Cover with obstacle courses. Hop over lines without slipping. Stress safety like dry floors.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. mention skills of body movements; 2. apply the skills of body movements; 3. observe safety precautions in body movements.

3. Key Competencies and Value:

i. Pupils demonstrate to work effectively and respectfully in throwing, catching, kicking, and striking objects correctly.

ii. Pupils use digital technologies to watch and perform the fundamental movement skills of throwing, catching, kicking, and striking of objects.

iii. Pupils overcome adversity and build resilience during walking, jumping, hopping, running, bending, etc.

They guide learning for resilience. Kids develop teamwork for life. This prepares for societal roles.

4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson
i. Teacher Activities: Guide pupils to work in groups to perform the fundamental movement skills; rotate roles. Demonstrate skills like walking, sitting and bending; show safe ways. Lead discussion on safety precautions; use examples.

ii. Learning Activities: Work in groups to perform throwing, catching, kicking, and striking; try new objects. Search for video clips on movement skills from google; share finds. Watch video clips showing skills; copy them. Participate in discussion on safety precautions; add ideas.

5. Teaching and Learning Resources: Playground, Sports wear, Video clips, Balls, Bean bags, etc.
Use balls for catching practice. Videos show pros. Playground for space, bean bags for soft throws.

Week 7: Mid-Term Break

Mid term test should be conducted the test should be from week 1 to 6. Mix questions on movements. Mark and discuss.

Week 8-10: Running (50-metre dash)

1. Content (Knowledge and Skill): Knowledge: 1. 50 metre dash. 2. Shuttle run. 3. Safety precautions in athletics: warm up, proper equipment, hydration.

Skills: 1. Running 50 metre dash. 2. Performing shuttle run. Mark 50m with tape. Warm up with jumps. Show shuttle as a game.

2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. run 50 metre dash correctly; 2. run in between objects in shuttle run; 3. mention safety precautions in 50 metre dash.

3. Key Competencies and Value:

i. Pupils discuss their performance in their group, they incorporate group input and feedback into their work.

ii. Pupils work in groups to develop, implement and communicate new ideas to other group members on the effective way of performing 50 metre dash.

iii. Pupils think reflectively, broadly and logically to participate in discussions to identify safety precautions in shuttle run.

iv. Pupils performs 50 metre dash and shuttle run.
These elements guide hard work in sports. They prepare for team contributions.

4. Learning Activities: This is what the teacher and the students will do during the lesson

i. Teacher Activities: Lead a 5-minute warm-up exercise; include stretches. Guide group performance of 50 metre dash and shuttle run; watch form. Lead cool down activity; breathe deep. Lead discussion on safety precautions; list them.

ii. Learning Activities: Perform warm-up; feel ready. Perform 50 metre dash in group; time each. Perform cool down; relax. Perform shuttle run in group; use objects. Participate in discussion on safety precautions; share thoughts.

5. Teaching and Learning Resources: Playground, Sports wear, Stop watch, Tape, Whistle.
Use whistle for starts. Stop watch tracks progress. Tape for clear lines.

Week 11: Revision

Revise all the lessons and prepare your pupils for the exam. Review movements and runs. Use games.

Week 12: Examination

The exam for the term should start. Test dash and safety.

Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation

Examination should be concluded together with marking and recording then vacation follows once all have been achieved. Give reports.
