Week 1-2: Qur’anic Recitation of selected surah: Surat al-Ikhlas
1. Content: Recitation of Suwar (Chapters) al-Ikhlas.
Explain oneness of Allah. Recite with emphasis on meaning.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. recite the Suwar (Chapters) al-Ikhlas.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Play audio-MP3 reciting the Suwar (chapters) and guide pupils to recite correctly in group minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid). The teacher links the recitation to tauhid.
ii. Students Activities: Listen to audio-MP3 reciting the Suwar (chapters); Recite the Suwar (chapters) correctly in group minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid). Pupils practice group recitation.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Audio-visual material (VCD, MP3, Tape recorder, etc.); Copies of a part of the Glorious Qur’an containing the chapters. Add storybooks. Use stories from books with audio for context.
Week 3-4: Iman (Faith)
1. Content: Meaning of Iman; Articles of faith (Belief in Allah, Angels, Messengers, Scriptures, Last Day, Qadr). Skills: Memorising the first thirty-three Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah.
Use stories to explain articles. Chant names in rhythm.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. explain the meaning of ‘Iman’; 2. mention the six Articles of faith.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Play audio clip on the meaning of Iman and guide pupils to work in group to explain the meaning of Iman. The teacher facilitates discussion.
ii. Students Activities: Work in group to explain the meaning of Iman. Pupils discuss together.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Audio clip on the meaning of Iman; Posters containing the six Articles of Faith; Posters containing the first thirty-three beautiful names and Attributes of Allah. Add coloring sheets. Use posters for group pointing and explaining.
Week 5-8: Iman (Faith) Continuation
1. Content: The Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah.
List names, explain meanings with examples.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 3. mention the first thirty-three (33) Beautiful Names of Allah and His Attributes.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Guide pupils to brainstorm on the first thirty-three (33) Beautiful Names of Allah and His Attributes.
ii. Students Activities: Brainstorm on the first thirty-three (33) Beautiful Names of Allah and His Attributes.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Audio clip on the meaning of Iman; Posters containing the six Articles of Faith; Posters containing the first thirty-three beautiful names and Attributes of Allah. Add audio chants. Play chants while pointing on posters.
Week 7: Mid-Term Break
Conduct mid-term test on weeks 1-6. Test recitation and faith basics.
Week 9: Purification: Al-Wudu’ (Ablution)
1. Content: Meaning of purification (Tahara); Meaning of ablution.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. explain the meaning of Tahara (purification); 2. explain the meaning of al-Wudu (Ablution) as a type of purification.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Demonstrate the meaning of purification and ablution and guide pupils to discuss in group on the meaning of purification and ablution. The teacher shows steps.
ii. Students Activities: Discuss in group on the meaning of purification and ablution as demonstrated by the teacher. Pupils talk and ask.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Water; Kettle; Video clip showing how to perform ablution; Relevant pictures showing stages of performing ablution. Add basins. Use video first, then practice with water in basins.
Week 10: Purification: Purposes of ablution
1. Content: Purposes of ablution; How to perform Ablution. Skills: Performing ablution.
Brainstorm why it’s done. List steps.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 3. state the purposes of ablution.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Guide pupils to brainstorm on the purpose of ablution. The teacher records pupils ideas.
ii. Students Activities: Brainstorm on the purpose of ablution. Pupils share their reasons.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Water; Kettle; Video clip showing how to perform ablution; Relevant pictures showing stages of performing ablution. Add charts. Use pictures to sequence steps during brainstorm.
Week 11: Revision
Revise term lessons. Focus on faith and ablution.
Week 12: Examination
Start term exam on all topics.
Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation
Finish exams, mark, record. Begin vacation.
