Week 1: Arabic Alphabets
1. Content: Identification of Arabic Alphabets.
To cover this, start with showing the alphabets one by one on a chart. Say each letter out loud and have kids repeat. Use fun games like matching letters to pictures that start with the sound.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. identify Arabic Alphabets.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Display a chart and guide pupils to identify alphabets in group. The teacher shows the chart clearly and points to each letter. They encourage group chants to make it interactive.
ii. Students Activities: Identify alphabets in group. Pupils look at the chart and name letters together. They practice by pointing and saying them aloud.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: A chart containing the Arabic alphabets; Audio-visual materials.
Add flashcards or a simple app if available. To use them, the teacher holds up the chart for all to see and plays audio clips for correct sounds. This keeps kids engaged and helps those who learn by hearing or seeing.
Week 2: Arabic Alphabets
1. Content: Pronunciation of Arabic Alphabets.
Cover this by breaking down sounds. Use mirrors so kids see how their mouths move. Repeat in pairs to build confidence.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. identify Arabic Alphabets; 2. Pronounce Arabic Alphabets.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Demonstrate pronunciation and guide pupils to pronounce alphabets in group by chanting. The teacher says each sound slowly and corrects gently. They lead chants to keep energy high.
ii. Students Activities: Pronounce the alphabets in group by chanting.
Pupils join in chants and try saying letters on their own.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: A chart containing the Arabic alphabets; Audio-visual materials; Video CD etc. Include printed worksheets for tracing. The teacher plays video clips to show proper mouth shapes. This makes lessons visual and fun, aiding memory.
Week 3: Writing of Arabic Alphabets.
1. Content: Writing of Arabic Alphabets.
Teach writing by tracing on paper. Show strokes step by step. Let kids practice on sand trays for sensory fun.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. identify Arabic Alphabets; 2. Pronounce Arabic Alphabets.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Guide pupils to identify alphabets individually and pronounce them individually with the aid of audio visuals. The teacher calls on each child and praises efforts.
ii. Students Activities: Identify alphabets individually; Pronounce the alphabets individually with the aid of audio visuals. Pupils take turns showing what they know.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: A chart containing the Arabic alphabets; Audio-visual materials; Video CD etc. Add pencils and paper. Use audio to reinforce sounds while kids write, linking hearing and doing.
Week 4-5: Qur’anic Recitation of selected surah: Surat al-Fatihah
1. Content: Recitation of Surah (Chapters) al-Fatiha.
Focus on memorization with games like echo repeats. Discuss simple meaning to make it relatable.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. recite the Suwar (Chapters) al-Fatiha; 2. memorise Suwar (Chapters) al-Fatiha.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Guide pupils to correctly recite the Suwar (chapters) individually as they are randomly selected, minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid).
ii. Students Activities: Correctly recite the Suwar (chapters) individually as they are randomly selected, minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid).
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Audio-visual material (VCD, MP3, Tape recorder, etc.); Copies of a part of the Glorious Qur’an containing the chapters. Include flashcards with verses. Use Qur’an copies for following along while listening to MP3, building familiarity.
Week 6-8: Qur’anic Recitation of selected surah: Surat an-Nas
1. Content: Recitation of Surah (Chapters) an-Nas.
Introduce with story context. Recite in circles for group support.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. recite the Suwar (Chapters) an-Nas.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Play audio-MP3 reciting the Suwar (chapters) and guide pupils to recite correctly in group minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid). The teacher models Tajwid rules.
ii. Students Activities: Listen to audio-MP3 reciting the Suwar (chapters); Recite the Suwar (chapters) correctly in group minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid). Pupils repeat after audio.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Audio-visual material (VCD, MP3, Tape recorder, etc.); Copies of a part of the Glorious Qur’an containing the chapters. Add posters with text. Teacher plays short clips, pauses for group recite, using books to point words.
Week 7: Mid-Term Break
Conduct a mid-term test from weeks 1 to 6. Include questions on alphabets and recitation. Use simple oral and written formats.
Week 9: Qur’anic Recitation of selected surah: Surat al-Falaq
1. Content (Knowledge and Skill): Knowledge: Recitation of Surah (Chapters) al-Falaq.
Link to protection theme. Use actions for verses.
2. Performance Objectives: Pupils should be able to: 1. recite the Suwar (Chapters) al-Falaq.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Play audio-MP3 reciting the Suwar (chapters) and guide pupils to recite correctly in group minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid). The teacher explains context.
ii. Students Activities: Listen to audio-MP3 reciting the Suwar (chapters); Recite the Suwar (chapters) correctly in group minding the rules of Qur’anic recitation (al-Tajwid). Pupils chant together.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Audio-visual material (VCD, MP3, Tape recorder, etc.); Copies of a part of the Glorious Qur’an containing the chapters. Add illustrated books. Use illustrations in books while playing audio to visualize meaning.
Week 11: Revision
Revise all lessons from the term. Go over alphabets and suwar. Prepare pupils for the exam with practice tests.
Week 12: Examination
The exam for the term should start. Cover topics from weeks 1-10.
Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation
Conclude examination, mark papers, record scores. Vacation follows once all is done.
