Week 1: Meaning of History
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Meaning of History. 2. History as a concept and a discipline. 3. Differences between History (real life experience) and storytelling (fiction). 4. Importance of the Differences in the decision-making process (for the individual or a group).
2. Performance Objectives: Students should be able to: 1. define the meaning of History; 2. differentiate between History as a concept and a discipline; 3. differentiate between History and storytelling; 4. identify the Importance of the differences between History and Storytelling in decision-making.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: The teacher introduces the topic, guides group discussions, facilitates internet search and class debate, provides charts for visualization.
ii. Learning Activities: The learners in groups discuss the meaning of History, search the internet for History as a concept and History as a discipline and participate in class discussion on the differences,
In groups debate on whether History and storytelling are the same (some proposing and others opposing), use charts to identify the importance of history in decision-making.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Charts for illustrating concepts; Computers for research; Internet access for online searches.
Week 2: Sources of History
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Sources of History: primary sources of History. 2. Accessing the sources of History: oral interviews; visit to archives; excursion to historical sites; exhibitions; libraries; cultural festivals; museums, etc. 3. Use of sources in decision making (for the individual or a group).
2. Performance Objectives: Students should be able to: 1. identify the sources of history; 2. explain how to access the sources of History; 3. distinguish amongst primary, secondary and tertiary sources of history; 4. identify use of sources in decision-making (for the individual or a group).
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: The teacher guides group internet searches, facilitates classification using charts, leads class discussion on access methods and distinctions.
ii. Learning Activities: The learners in groups search the internet for the sources of history and their examples and use charts to classify and discuss the examples of the sources of history, participate in class discussion on how to access the sources of history,
Think-Pair-Share the distinctions amongst primary secondary and tertiary sources of history, discuss in class the importance of relevant sources in decision making.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Computers for online research; Internet access to explore sources; Archival materials as examples; Sample artifacts for hands-on viewing; Biographies to illustrate secondary sources; Charts for classification.
Week 3: Importance of History
1. Content: Knowledge: Importance of History: to the individual; to the society/community; to the nation; For decision making at the individual, community and national levels. Skills: 1. Describing the importance of history to the individual. 2. Analysing the importance of History, society/community and the nation.
2. Performance Objectives: Students should be able to: 1. identify and explain the importance of History to the individual; 2. identify and explain the importance of History to the Society/community; 3. identify and explain the general importance of History to the Nation in the past and for decision making.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: The teacher provides charts for pair and group analysis, invites guest speaker for national perspective, facilitates discussions.
ii. Learning Activities: The learners in pairs use charts to identify discuss and analyse the importance of History to the individual, in groups use charts to identify discuss and analyse the importance of History to the society/community, listen to a guest speaker’s analysis of the importance of History to the nation.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Charts on the importance of History to the society/community for group work; Guest speaker to share insights on national relevance.
Week 4-5: The Nok Culture
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Location of Nok on the map of Nigeria. 2. Features of Nok culture. 3. Significance of Nok culture in Nigerian History. 4. Challenges of Nok culture. 5. Nok culture as a symbol of national pride. Skills: Locating Nok on the map of Nigeria; Describing the features of Nok culture; Analysing the importance of Nok culture.
2. Performance Objectives: Students should be able to: 1. identify the location of Nok on the map of Nigeria; 2. explain the features of Nok culture; 3. discuss the significance of Nok culture; 4. discuss the challenges of Nok culture.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: The teacher displays map and pictures, plays video documentaries, guides group discussions on features and significance.
ii. Learning Activities: The learners identify the location of Nok on the map of Nigeria, use pictures to identify and discuss the features of the Nok culture (Terra-cotta heads and other artefacts in the Nok culture), watch video documentaries on Nok culture and discuss the significance of Nok culture.

Week 6-8: Ile-Ife Civilisation
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Location of Ile-Ife on the map of Nigeria. 2. Features of Ile-Ife culture. 3. Significance of Ile-Ife culture in Nigerian History. 4. Challenges of Ile-Ife culture. 5. Ile-Ife culture as a symbol of national pride. Skills: Locating Ile-Ife on the map of Nigeria; Describing the features of Ile-Ife culture; Analysing the importance of Ile-Ife culture.
2. Performance Objectives: Students should be able to: 1. identify the location of Ile-Ife on the map of Nigeria; 2. identify the features of Ile-Ife civilisation/culture; 3. discuss the significance of Ile-Ife culture; 4. discuss the challenges of Ile-Ife culture.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: The teacher shows map and pictures, plays videos, guides discussions on features and significance.
ii. 1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Location of Benin on the map of Nigeria. 2. Features of the Benin culture. 3. Significance of Benin culture in Nigerian History. 4. Challenges of Benin culture. 5. Benin culture as a symbol of national pride. Skills: Locating Benin on the map of Nigeria; Describing the features of the Benin Culture; Analysing the importance of Benin Culture.
