Week 1: Who is God?
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Who is God? (Supreme being, the Creator of the universe, etc.), Gen. 1:1; Jer. 10:12. 2. Attributes of God (Sovereign creator, omnipresence, invisible, only wise God, Spirit, etc.). 3. Names of God in different Nigerian languages, e.g. Ubangiji (Hausa), Olorun (Yoruba), Chineke (Igbo), Agwatana (Bassa), Abasi (Efik), Tamara (Ijaw), Shekwo (Gbagyi), Soko (Nupe), Yamba (Tangale), etc.
2. Performance Objectives: 1. Explain who God is; 2. List some attributes of God; 3. State the names of God in different Nigerian languages.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Guides students to read and discuss Bible passages on who God is, facilitates group searches on the internet for attributes of God and oversees class presentations, uses infographics and word cards to lead discussions on names of God.
ii. Student Activities: Read and discuss in groups the Bible passages on who God is, search the internet in groups for attributes of God and present findings to the class, discuss using infographics and word cards the names of God in different Nigerian languages.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Holy Bible for reading passages, Internet access for research on attributes, Infographics to visualize concepts, Word cards of names of God in different Nigerian languages to aid discussion.
Week 2: God’s Creation
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Biblical account of the creation Gen. 1 & 2. 2. Why God created human beings: To know Him, To worship Him, To serve Him, etc. 3. Songs about the creation in English and different Nigerian languages (e.g. all things bright and beautiful, the Lord God made them all). Skill: Singing a song on creation.
2. Performance Objectives: 1. Give a sequential account of the Biblical narration on the creation of the world; 2. State the reasons God created human beings; 3. Sing songs on creation.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Shows video clips and leads discussion on the Biblical account of creation, guides groups to use charts for discussing and creating posters on why God created humans, teaches and leads singing of creation songs in English and Nigerian languages, instructs students to sketch created things.
ii. Student Activities: Watch video clips and participate in discussion on the Biblical account of the creation, in groups, use charts to discuss and create posters on why God created human beings, sing songs about the creation in English and different Nigerian languages, sketch things created by God in their environment.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Holy Bible for scriptural reference, Charts to organize ideas, Video clips on the Biblical account of the creation to visualize the story.
Week 3-4: Human Beings Share in God’s Creative Activities
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Sharing in God’s creative activities through marriage; Jn 2:1 – The meaning of marriage – Gen. 2:22 – 25. Eph. 5: 21 – 31. 2. Purpose of marriage. 3. Things invented by man e.g. cars, chairs, airplanes, buildings
2. Performance Objectives: 1. Explain the meaning of marriage; 2. State the purpose of marriage; 3. Identify things made by humans; 4. Mould an object using clay or mashed paper with starch.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Guides reading of Bible passages and group discussions on meaning of marriage, with class presentations, uses infographics to lead group identification and discussion on purpose of marriage, instructs pairs to create artwork of human inventions, demonstrates and oversees individual moulding with clay or mashed paper.
ii. Student Activities: Read the Bible passages and discuss in groups the meaning of marriage, and make a class presentation on it, use infographics to identify and discuss in groups the purpose of marriage
Create artwork of things invented by humans in their environment in pairs, individually use clay or mashed paper with starch to mould a car and a chair.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Holy Bible for biblical insights, Infographics to illustrate points, Charts for group work.
Week 5-6: Disobedience
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Meaning and types of disobedience. 2. Biblical account of first human disobedience, Gen 3: 1 – 19. 3. Consequences of Adam and Eve’s disobedience, Gen 3: 14 -19. 4. Acts of disobedience and the consequences.
2. Performance Objectives: 1. Define obedience; 2. List the types of disobedience; 3. Give a Biblical account of the first human disobedience; 4. Identify the consequences of disobedience against the national laws; 5. Enumerate acts of disobedience and their consequences.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Leads class discussion on meaning and types of disobedience, shows video clips on first human disobedience, facilitates discussion on consequences of Adam and Eve’s disobedience, guides group internet searches and analysis of acts of disobedience at home, school, and against national laws, instructs composition of reflective essays.
ii. Student Activities: Participate in class discussion on the meaning and types of disobedience, watch video clips on the first human disobedience, participate in class discussion on the consequences of Adam and Eve’s disobedience,
Search the internet in groups and analyse acts of disobedience at home, in school, and against national laws and their consequences, compose a reflective essay on Adam or Eve’s perspective – reflecting on their actions and feelings.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Holy Bible for stories, Internet access for research, Video clips to show events.
Week 7: Mid-Term Break
Mid term test should be conducted the test should be from week 1 to 6.
Week 8: Reconciliation
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Meaning and ways of reconciliation. 2. Esau reconciles with Jacob, Gen. 33:1-11. 3. The prodigal son reconciles with his son, Lk. 15:11-32. 4. Reconciliation with God, 1 Jn. 1:9; Prov. 28:13.
2. Performance Objectives: 1. State the meaning of reconciliation and identify the conditions necessary for reconciliation reconciliations; 2. Narrate the story of the prodigal son; 3. Discuss the ways of reconciliation; 4. Recount the story of Jacob’s reconciliation with Esau.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Leads class discussion on meaning and ways of reconciliation, guides internet searches for conditions necessary for reconciliation and class discussion, instructs reading and role-play of prodigal son story, facilitates reading and question-raising on Jacob and Esau’s reconciliation.
ii. Student Activities: Participate in class discussion on the meaning of reconciliation and ways of reconciliation, search the internet for conditions necessary for reconciliation and participate in class discussion of it,
Read the Bible passage and role-play the story of the prodigal son, read the story of Jacob’s reconciliation with Esau and raise questions with answers on conflicts and ways of reconciling with offenders in groups.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Holy Bible for narratives, Charts to map ideas, Internet access for extra info.
Week 9-10: Relationships in the Family
1. Content: Knowledge: 1. Meaning and types of family. 2. Recognition of family members. 3. The roles of family members, Eph. 6: 1-9, Eph. 5: 21 – 33; Col. 3: 18-21; I Pet. 3:1– 7. 4. Concept of good family name, Prov. 22: 1; Ecc. 17: 1.
2. Performance Objectives: 1. Explain the meaning and types of family; 2. Draw a family tree and identify the members; 3. Identify the roles of family members; 4. State the attributes of a good family.
3. Learning Activities:
i. Teacher Activities: Leads class discussion on meaning and types of family, guides group role-plays of family members, facilitates reading and discussion on roles of family members, instructs individual reading and use of charts to identify and discuss attributes of a good family.
ii. Student Activities: Participate in class discussion on the meaning and types of family, role-play members of a family in groups, read the Bible passages and participate in class discussion on the roles of family members, individually read the Bible passages and use charts to identify and discuss the attributes of a good family.
4. Teaching and Learning Resources: Holy Bible for guidance, Charts to draw family trees.
Week 11: Revision
Revised all the lessons and prepare your pupils for the exam.
Week 12: Examination
The exam for the term should start.
Week 13: Examination, Marking & Vacation
Examination should be concluded together with marking and recording then vacation follows once all have been achieved.
